The Universidade Federal de São Carlos ( UFSCar ; German  Federal University of São Carlos ) in São Carlos is a public university founded in 1968 in the Brazilian state of São Paulo .

history

Teaching began in March 1970 with 96 students. The university was the first in Brazil to offer courses in materials science and engineering . It was the first university in the interior of the state of São Paulo. In 2012, around 17,000 students were enrolled and are offered degrees in 57 subjects. The university is divided into 33 scientific departments, which are grouped into four centers: Centro de Ciências Biológicas e da Saúde (CCBS), Centro de Ciências Exatas e de Tecnologia (CCET), Centro de Educação e Ciências Humanas (CECH) and the Centro de Ciências Agrárias (CCA).

The campus

The main campus is located in São Carlos. The Araras campus was founded in 1991 and the Sorocaba campus in 2005 . The site in Buri for a fourth campus (Lagoa do Sino) dedicated to agricultural sciences was donated in November 2010 by the writer Raduan Nassar .
