The Universidade Federal de Sergipe , UFS Federal University of Sergipe (German Federal University of Sergipe ) is a federal public university founded in 1963 in the Brazilian state of Sergipe with headquarters in São Cristóvão .
About 492 lecturers teach at the university; the number of students is around 13,300. The university rector is Angelo Roberto Antoniolli.
history
The first higher education institutions began in Sergipe in 1920, the Escola de Ciências Econômicas and the Escola de Química were founded in 1950, followed by a Faculdade Católica de Filosofia and the Faculdade de Direito, the law faculty, in 1951. Other foundations were the Escola de Serviço Social in 1954 and the Faculdade de Ciências Médicas in 1961. These institutions were merged in 1963 to form the Federal University of Sergipe.
The university offers a diverse range of courses at the graduate and postgraduate level.

Originally the university was spread over four campuses, but another branch has now been added.

The university was the alma mater of three governors, seven mayors of the state capital Aracaju and the President of the Supreme Court of Brazil and the Executive Director of the World Bank .
