The Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso (UFMT) (German: Federal University of Mato Grosso ) is a Brazilian state university in Cuiabá , the capital of Mato Grosso . It was founded there on December 10, 1970.

It emerged from two previous educational institutions, the Faculdade de Direito (Faculty of Law) founded in 1934 and the Instituto de Ciências e Letras de Cuiabá founded in 1966. The university rector (as of 2020) is the electrical engineer Evandro Soares da Silva.

Locations

The university has campuses in Barra do Garças , Cuiabá, Pontal do Araguaia , Rondonópolis , Sinop and Várzea Grande .

On the campus of Cuiabá is the Rondon Museum , which deals with the Brazilian national hero and explorer Cândido Rondon .

Trivia

A training camp was set up in the university's multisport center during the 2014 World Cup .
