Belford Roxo , officially Município de Belford Roxo , is a city in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro . In 2018, Belford Roxo lived 508,614 people on 79.791 km². It is the fifth most populous city in the state. The city belongs to the Baixada Fluminense , a series of suburbs of Rio with a total of about 3 million inhabitants.
history
For most of the 20th century, Belford Roxo belonged to the city of Nova Iguaçu . On April 3rd, 1990 it broke away from Nova Iguaçu and since January 1st, 1993 the municipality of Belford Roxo has existed.
