Piraí , officially Município de Piraí , is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Rio de Janeiro that was founded in 1837. It is located approx. 387 m above sea level and approx. 90 km from the state capital Rio de Janeiro . A 2010 census showed a population of 26,314. According to official estimates, around 29,000 people lived in Piraí in 2018. The area covers approx. 505.5 km².
The neighboring municipalities of Piraí are Paracambi , Pinheiral , Rio Claro and Volta Redonda .
