    The Partido Democrático Trabalhista ( PDT ), Democratic Labor Party 'is a center-left - Party in Brazil , located in the federal capital Brasília . Since 1986 the party has belonged to the Socialist International .

    The party regards the Carta de Lisboa 'Charter of Lisbon' of June 17, 1979 as its founding act. It was officially registered with the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral of Brazil in 1980. Leonel Brizola (1922–2004), a leader in the resistance against the military junta that came to power in 1964 and essentially ruled the country until 1990, is seen as the party’s founder . The current party chairman is the former Labor Minister Carlos Lupi from Rio de Janeiro , who took over the office in 2004 after Brizola's death.

    The party feels generally represented by Getúlio Vargas , João Goulart , Darcy Ribeiro , Alberto Pasqualini , Doutel de Andrade , Abdias Nascimento , Neiva Moreira and Manoel Dias and their ideas are committed.
