Ciro Gomes
Ciro Ferreira Gomes (born November 6, 1957 in Pindamonhangaba , São Paulo ) is a Brazilian politician who ran for the Partido Democrático Trabalhista (PDT) for the 2018 presidential election.
origin
Gomes comes from the Portuguese immigrant family Ferreira Gomes, a family of oligarchs who later settled in the Ceará as small traders and civil servants and who also worked as local and provincial politicians since the independence of the Brazilian Empire . His father was the lawyer José Euclides Ferreira Gomes Júnior (1918–1996), his mother was Maria José Santos (1928–2015) from São Paulo. In 1961 his family moved to Sobral . Two of his four brothers also became politicians: Cid Gomes and Ivo Gomes .
Political career
Gomes is a party changer, the PDT is already the seventh party in his candidacy from 2015. They each helped him to electoral positions: From 1980 to 1983 PDS, Partido Democrático Social , then 1983 to 1988 PMDB, Partido do Movimento Democrático Brasileiro , for which he from February 1, 1983 to December 16, 1988 Member of the Legislative Assembly in Ceará. Then from 1988 to 1996 PSDB, Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira , from January 1, 1989 to April 2, 1990 as the 43rd city prefect (mayor) of Fortaleza . From March 15, 1991 to September 6, 1994 he was the 52nd Governor of Ceará and from September 6, 1994 to January 1, 1996 Minister of Finance of Brazil in the government of Itamar Franco .
From 1996 to 2005 he was a member of the PPS, Partido Popular Socialista, and was appointed 6th Minister for National Integration by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for the period from January 1, 2003 to March 31, 2006. From 2005 to 2013 he was a member of the PSB, Partido Socialista Brasileiro , and from February 1, 2007 to February 1, 2011, he was a member of his state's Chamber of Deputies for one legislative period . From 2013 to 2015 he switched to PROS, Partido Republicano da Ordem Social .
In the private sector, he worked for Transnordestina Logística and the parent company Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional .
