The Polideportivo Fernando Martín (full name: Pabellón Polideportivo Municipal Fernando Martín ; German  Municipal Multipurpose Sports Hall Fernando Martín ) is a multipurpose hall in the Spanish city of Fuenlabrada , Autonomous Community of Madrid . It is the home of the Montakit Fuenlabrada basketball club .

history

The sports arena is named after the Spanish basketball player Fernando Martín (1962–1989), who died in a traffic accident at the age of 27 . Around two years after his death, the hall was inaugurated in September 1991 in the presence of his parents. Two former Martín clubs, CB Estudiantes and Real Madrid , faced each other. The offices of Montakit Fuenlabrada are also located in the hall. In addition to basketball, other sports such as karate , judo and rhythmic gymnastics as well as school sports and senior sports can be practiced in the Pabellón Polideportivo .

In the FIBA European Championship 1991/92, the teams from Yugoslavia had to switch to substitute venues outside the country due to the Yugoslav wars. The KK Partizan Belgrade played the group stage games in the hall in Fuenlabrada. In the end Partizan won the final in Istanbul against the Spanish club Joventut de Badalona 71:70.

In 2007 the hall was renovated. In addition to an underground car park, a new north stand was also installed. It increased the available space from the original 5100 to the current figure of 5700.
