San Sebastián Gipuzkoa Basket Club , mostly just Gipuzkoa Basket , is a Spanish basketball club from Donostia-San Sebastián . The first team plays in the ACB league . The home games will be played in the San Sebastián Arena 2016 , which has a capacity of 11,000 .
history
Gipuzkoa Basket was launched in May 2001 and played the 2001/02 season in the LEB-2, the third division, where the team replaced the club, also from San Sebastián, CB Askatuak . After the season, the club withdrew. Only two years later, in the 2004/05 season, Gipuzkoa Basket again put a team in the third division and only failed in the play-offs on promotion to the LEB . The club's management then decided to acquire the license from CB Ciudad de Algeciras in order to be able to compete in the second division in 2005/06. Here the team developed to the discovery of the season, reached the play-off and prevailed in this against CB Inca , Baloncesto León and CB Murcia to win the title of the second division and thus to rise to the ACB league.
In the first year in the highest division, the Basques could only win eight games and were relegated to the LEB again. In the 2007/08 season, Pablo Laso took over as coach and immediately led the team back to the ACB league. Gipuzkoa Basket achieved their best result so far in the 2011/12 season, when the team finished the regular season in fifth place and lost 2-1 to Valencia Basket Club in the play-off for the championship in the quarter-finals . Also in the round of the last eight, the club lost in the Copa del Rey this year . In addition, forward Andrew Panko was elected MVP of the league and guard Sergi Vidal to the all-tournament team that season.
