Michał Ignerski (born August 13, 1980 in Lublin ) is a Polish basketball player . The Polish international has been playing in the forward position in Russia since 2014 .

Career as a player

USA (1999-2003)

Ignerski spent his childhood in Poland. In 1999 he went to the USA and initially played for college teams in junior colleges in the US state of Oklahoma during his studies . In 2001 he moved to Mississippi State University , where he played for the Bulldogs in the Southeastern Conference of the NCAA Division I.

Europe (since 2003)

After returning to Europe, he first played in his homeland for Śląsk Wrocław, with whom he won the Polish Cup in 2004 and 2005. At the 2005 Cup he was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament. With Śląsk he won the regular season of the Polish league in 2004 and reached the play-off final. In 2006 he was once again in the Polish play-off finals with his new club Anwil Włocławek. For the next four years Ignerski played in the Spanish ACB league for the clubs from Seville and San Sebastián. During this time he was also a member of the Polish national team at the finals of the 2009 European Basketball Championship in his own country, where they were eliminated after the intermediate round.

Ignerski moved to Turkey in 2010 and reached the 2011 Turkish Cup final with Beşiktaş Istanbul . Ignerski then moved to the Russian PBL to Nizhny Novgorod. In the 2011/12 season he was elected MVP of the month January in the VTB United League . In March 2012, he left the club and moved to the Russian competitor Lokomotive Kuban in Krasnodar for the end of the season . After the season he went to Italy to play in their top division Serie A for the Sardinian club Dinamo from Sassari . Together with the Diener brothers, the team achieved second place after the main round, the best ranking for the club so far. In the first round of the play-offs for the championship, however, they were eliminated in seven games against the established Lenovo Cantù team . In the summer break of 2013 Ignerski took with the Polish national team , which, however, under the leadership of German coach Dirk Bauermann, lost the first four preliminary round matches and only won the insignificant last group game against hosts Slovenia , which meant the disappointingly early elimination. For the following 2013/14 season Ignerski got a contract with the Italian runner-up Acea Virtus from the capital Rome , but only completed four championship appearances at the beginning of the season before the contract was terminated again. At the beginning of 2014 Ignerski got a new contract in Russia, where he plays for the EuroChallenge defending champion Krasnye Krylja from Samara .
