Dinamo Basket Sassari (also Banco di Sardegna Sassari ) is an Italian basketball club from Sassari .
history
The club was founded in 1960 and played for the first time in 1963 in a regional league before the club in 1966 in the fourth highest division, Serie C , participated. In 1980 the promotion to Serie B followed . After a temporary relegation, they established themselves from the 1983/84 season in this league. In the season 1988/89 Sassari reached the decisive game series for promotion to Serie A2 , the second basketball league in Italy. The team prevailed 2-1 against Mens Sana Basket Siena .
This was followed by ten years in the A2 series, in which they mostly occupied midfield positions. Twice the team reached the play-offs for promotion to the Serie A . Against Basket Livorno and Basket Rimini Crabs it could not prevail in the semi-finals. Just a year after reaching the semi-finals against Rimini, the club surprisingly rose last in the Serie B d'Eccelenza , the third division. There they took first place after the end of the main round, but failed in the play-offs. In 2003 the team defeated Pallacanestro Trapani in the decisive duel for promotion to the Legadue , as the second division was now called. After Sassari was one of the contenders for promotion in this league since 2007, this succeeded in the 2009/10 season. The team switched off in the play-offs first Pistoia Basket 2000 , then Junior Libertas Pallacanestro and finally Veroli Basket in the final .
In the first season in Serie A, the team reached the play-offs for the Italian basketball championship as sixth in the main round. In the quarter-finals they faced Olimpia Milano . After Sassari won the first game in Milan with just 71:70, the following three games were all lost and the team was eliminated. The regular round of the 2011/12 season ended Sassari in fourth place. In the play-offs, the team failed in the semifinals at Montepaschi Siena .
In the 2012/13 season Dinamo Basket took part in a European Cup for the first time in the club's history . In the ULEB Eurocup , the second most important European competition in basketball, the team finished last in the first group stage and was eliminated.
In 2018/19 Sassari won the FIBA Europe Cup .
