Estopa
Estopa is a Spanish musical group.
Career
Estopa was formed by the two Spanish brothers Muñoz Calvo, David (born January 10, 1976) and José Manuel (born November 19, 1978). You were born and raised in Cornellà de Llobregat near Barcelona , worked on the assembly line for a supplier to Seat (Novel Lahnwerk) for a few years and were surprised by a success that occurred rather by chance. A friend had passed a demo song on to the record label BMG , which promptly showed interest.
Their first album Estopa , released in 1999, sold around 1,400,000 copies. The albums Destrangis and La calle es tuya? (“Is the street yours?”). Their fourth album Voces de ultrarumba followed in November 2005 , the name of which is a play on words derived from “Voces de Ultra t umba” - it means something like “voice from the underground” or “voice from another world”. 200,000 albums were sold in the first two weeks.
The music has a strong Spanish flair. Rumba rock, as it is called, can perhaps be classified between punk rock and traditional Spanish guitar music. Contrary to popular belief, Estopa do not sing in the Andalusian dialect, but rather in a linguistically simple and lax expression that comes close to Andalusian in only a few points. The texts can only be understood with good language skills.
The language of Estopa is also unusual. Coming from a humble background, the lyrics are very open, direct, and sometimes even outrageous. Your lyrics are about the worries and needs of the common man who thinks about his life and who longs for the weekend on Mondays so that he can have a proper fiesta again. Estopa is the voice of the suburbs of Barcelona, the charnegos . They were born and raised in a high-rise estate in Cornellà, a city of 80,000 on the outskirts of Barcelona. You can find almost every age group among their followers. They are particularly popular with the Spanish-speaking population of Barcelona and the autonomous region of Catalonia .
