Maximilian Ugrai (born July 28, 1995 in Bad Mergentheim ) is a German basketball player and A2 national player. Ugrai played for s.Oliver Würzburg from the age of 13 . He has been under contract with second division Bremerhaven since 2020.
Life
Private career
Ugrai spent his childhood in Heckfeld , a district of Lauda-Königshofen in the Main-Tauber district . After playing soccer at FC Heckfeld, Ugrai began playing basketball in 2008 in the basketball club of the Matthias Grünewald High School in Tauberbischofsheim , but could not take part in tournaments or games because he came from another school. Participation in a basketball group in Bad Mergentheim was also short-lived. When his mother agreed to drive her son to Würzburg twice a week , Ugrai joined the Würzburg Baskets . When he later moved to Würzburg, he attended the sports promotion class at the Deutschhaus-Gymnasium and obtained his Abitur there in 2014 .
Athletic career
Beginnings in the Würzburg youngsters
The 2.04 m long Ugrai played in the youth department of s.Oliver Baskets Würzburg from the age of 13. From the 2011/12 season he also regularly gained match practice at Take-Off Würzburg. At the age of 16, he was promoted to the Southeast Regionalliga in 2012 with the reserve team of the s.Oliver Baskets. In the NBBL 2013/14 season, Ugrai put on a "double-double" as a winger with an average of 18.6 points and 10.3 rebounds and made it to the quarter-finals of the German championship with the s.Oliver Baskets Academy.
First and second division players
In the 2012/13 season Ugrai was used in one game and reached 11 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals in 20:12 minutes. In 2013 Ugrai signed his first professional contract with the s.Oliver Baskets. In the 2013/14 season he came as a winger in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) on one assignment and 14 appearances in the Junior Basketball Bundesliga (NBBL). After the relegation at the end of the 2013/14 season and the resurgence of the S.Oliver Baskets in 2014/15, Ugrai was one of the few own young players in the Würzburg Bundesliga team.
In 2015 Ugrai signed a new three-year contract with the Würzburg team until the end of the 2017/18 season. In the Bundesliga season 2015/16 Ugrai played 25 games, 22 of them in the main round and 3 in the quarter-finals of the play-offs against Brose Baskets Bamberg , averaging 10:42 minutes and averaging 3.4 points and 1.7 Rebounds. After the 2016/2017 season, Würzburg announced that Ugrai would leave the club. In June 2017 he was announced as a new addition by the Bundesliga club Science City Jena .
He was used in all 34 Bundesliga games for the Thuringians in the 2017/18 season, 27 of them in the starting line-up. Ugrai achieved an average of 7.4 points per game and achieved personal career best values in all relevant statistics. In mid-May 2018, Jena's Bundesliga competitor Ratiopharm Ulm announced Ugrai's commitment. In his first year in the Ulm dress, Ugrai played 29 Bundesliga games in the 2018/19 season. In addition, he gained experience at European level and took part in the Euro Cup club competition with Ulm. A knee injury in summer 2019 meant that Ugrai missed most of the 2019/20 season.
In August 2020 he was signed by the second division Eisbären Bremerhaven .
