The 1999/2000 season is the 25th season of the 2nd basketball division . The regular season began on September 25, 1999 and ended on March 7, 2000. The "postseason" with promotion and relegation rounds lasted from March 12, 2000 to April 29, 2000.
Before the start of the season, the league was divided into two seasons (north and south), each with twelve teams. After the regular season in the "everyone against everyone" mode with a return leg, the top six teams played a promotion round, with the results of the main round being taken. After the promotion round, the top and bottom of the two seasons played crosswise with the two worst teams in the 1999/2000 basketball league in a qualifying round with two groups of three teams from two teams for the 2000/01 basketball league . The six worst teams of the two second division seasons took part in a relegation round. Two teams descended into the assigned regional leagues regularly per season. The results of the main round were taken into the relegation rounds.
In the group south there were two athletic relegations from the BBL with the USC Freiburg and Basket Bayreuth . While the Bayreuth team withdrew and started again as BBC Bayreuth in the regional league, SV Oberelchingen also withdrew its team from the BBL, but continued to play in the 2nd division group south.
The Rhöndorfer TV sold its first division license to the Skyliners Frankfurt , but acquired the second division license of BG Ludwigsburg from the southern group, which continued as BSG Basket Ludwigsburg in the regional league, and played with this license in the northern group.
From the second division, both BG Ludwigsburg and TSV Speyer withdrew their team from the group south and continued as SG Speyer / Bad Dürkheim in the regional league.
When the Oberelchinger withdrew to the south group, the south group played with thirteen teams. In the north group, the Hannover Flyers withdrew in the middle of the season , so that the regular season was played with eleven teams.
