The SG Sechtem is a sports club based in Bornheim (Rhineland) , which is primarily known for its basketball department .

Since the 2013/14 season, the basketball players have also been operating under the name "Sechtem Toros". The initiative for this came from the senior teams and the new managers in the basketball department. Since then, the SG Sechtem men's teams have been running as Sechtem Toros, the women's teams as Lady Toros and the youth players as Junior Toros.

history

The association was founded in 1971. A few local men joined forces and formed a new club out of a gymnastics group. In addition to the basketball department, the association runs sports groups in the areas of gymnastics, gymnastics and athletics.

The SG Sechtem's basketball team experienced its most successful period between 1999 and 2002. At that time, the first team played in the 2nd Bundesliga . From 1998 to 2002 SG Sechtem acted as a cooperation partner of Telekom Baskets Bonn and received so many talented players from the squad of the first division club. After the end of the cooperation, SG Sechtem played one more season under the name MDI Sports Sechtem in the second Bundesliga. After that, the club voluntarily withdrew from the league and it followed a rebuilding in the 2nd Regionalliga West. After completing the 2004/2005 season, he was promoted to the 1st Regionalliga West. There was no victory and the first team withdrew from the game during the current season. This almost meant the end of the basketball department, but a new build-up due to injuries and in the 2nd regional league could be achieved.

Under the leadership of Oliver Stier (manager), the club was conceptually realigned. In 2009 the promotion to the 1st Regionalliga West succeeded again. There you could finish the season 2009/2010 as a climber in 5th place.

At the end of the 2009/2010 season, Dusko Milic was released as a trainer for SG Sechtem. Meik Bassen was appointed as an interim trainer. He is also responsible for putting together the squad for the 2010/2011 season. In mid-June 2010, SG Sechtem announced that Meik Bassen will now also officially become head coach of the 1st team. He had previously been the coach of the 2nd team. The 2010/2011 season was one of the most successful seasons in the club's history. On April 2, 2011, the team won the championship of the Regionalliga West early with a 70:68 win against Münster. Due to the tense financial situation, the club refrained from advancing to the Pro B and also started in the 1st Regionalliga West in 2011/2012. The SG could not make the 2011/2012 season as successful as hoped. Due to many narrow defeats, the team found itself in 12th place at the end of the season and barely managed to stay in the league. The following season 2012/2013 the SG Sechtem ended with 13 wins and 11 defeats then in the table position 8. After the first half of the season 2013/14 was marked by many injuries to important players, the Bornheimer improved from 12th place to 7th. Position of the conclusion table. The deciding factor for this were seven wins in a row, so that one was even in second place in the second half of the table.

The next setback for the Vorgebirgler came at the end of the 2015/2016 season, in which they actually managed to stay in the league with 12th place in the table, but then still had to compete in the 2nd regional league after the Hertener Löwen and the Schwelmer Baskets two NRW teams were relegated from the ProB .
