Rolf "Bibo" Mayr (* 28. August 1964 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German Basketball - National Team . Mayr has been considered the tallest person in Germany since 2009 and works as a property trade specialist in Cologne.

Career

Mayr, who claims to have grown up at the age of 16, played in his youth for the teams of the former Bundesliga club Eintracht from his hometown. With the men's team of the club, he managed to return to the then third-class regional league in 1986 . He then got a sports scholarship in the United States , where he studied at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh , and was there in the second year in the college team Dukes in the Atlantic 10 Conference of the NCAA . However, Mayr was given little time and returned to Germany after just two years. In the Dukes' basketball team, he is still considered the greatest player who was ever active for the team.

After his return to Germany in 1988 Mayr played professionally for the German champions BSC Saturn from Cologne . However, this had to suffer from the loss of his name sponsor and could not defend his title in the basketball Bundesliga in 1988/89 . In April 1989 Mayr was appointed to the German national team for three appearances in friendly matches. For the following season the Cologne found new name sponsors in Turkey and competed under the name Galatasaray Cologne. After the agreed sponsor payments failed to materialize, the Basketball Bundesliga had to file for bankruptcy in 1989/90 . Mayr changed the club for the following season, but stayed in the Rhineland and joined the first division promoted from Bad Godesberg , who, however, missed relegation in the 1990/91 season. Then Mayr changed the club again and went to the league competitor from Bramsche , who had risen with the Godesbergers, but had successfully held the class. A year later, however, the club signed the national player Gunther Behnke , who was almost equally long, to the basketball Bundesliga 1992/93 . Since the simultaneous use of the two tall guys for the team promised little success, Mayr's working hours were reduced, who then went back to the Rhineland in 1993.

From 1993 Mayr played in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga Group North for the club from Rhöndorf , which was promoted to the top division in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga 1994/95 . In the top division, however, Mayr no longer got a chance and he switched to the local competitor from Sechtem in the regional league. There he ended his basketball career for the time being in 1998 and concentrated on working as a general agent for Nürnberger Versicherung. After being active for four years for the club's second team, the first team, which played second-rate between 1999 and 2002, returned to third-division. Thereupon Mayr declared himself ready to be active again for the first team. Mayr did this for another three years before finally declaring his resignation from the first team in March 2005. Afterwards he was still active for lower-class teams of the club and after a career change in 2008 he also did this for teams in his new home at TuS Jena .

activities

Mayr, who makes music himself and claims to play guitar and flute, became an enthusiastic carnivalist in the Rhineland . In 2005 he was accepted as a member of the Bonn City Soldiers Corps from 1872. Furthermore, Mayr in the Rhineland became a member of the medium-sized and business association organized by the CDU and campaigned for issues relating to disabled sports . Among other things, he was co-organizer of a basketball benefit game for the Bonn Disabled Sports Association in 2004, for which he was able to win many former colleagues.

In 1998 Rolf Mayr took part in Everyone against Everyone .

In 2015 he was a candidate for Die 2 - Gottschalk & Jauch gegen alle .

record

Since the death of Konstantin Klein on January 23, 2009, for whom a height of 2.23 m was measured, Mayr has been considered the tallest living person in Germany with a height of 2.22 m. Mayr has two sons who, according to forecasts, will also be over 2.10 m tall. Mayr's older son Daniel has already exceeded this size (2.18 m). He also plays basketball and was a member of the U18 junior national team in 2013 .
