Yun Heunggil (born December 14, 1942 in Chŏngŭp , Chŏllabuk-do ) is a South Korean writer .

Life

Yun Heunggil was born in 1942 in a village in North Chŏlla Province, South Korea . He lived in poor conditions, but there he got to know the magic and magic of nature, came into contact with the world of old women, their manners and customs and learned an unadulterated language and storytelling art.

At a young age, Yun got on the wrong track and led a life on the margins of society. The experience of bitter poverty firsthand later became the basis of his ability to realistically trace the “smell and feelings of people whose roots are in a soil called poverty” . Yun completed a pedagogical training and taught at an elementary school in the province. There he began his first literary work.

In 1968 he made the leap into literary life with the publication of an autobiographical short story. He studied Korean literature at Wongwang University and initially taught at a private school after graduating. After his resignation, a life of deep poverty began again for him.

In 1976 his first volume was published with tales House of Twilight . The following year, eleven short stories were published, including The Man Who Left Nine Pairs of Shoes and Yun's first novel, The Sea of Revelation . In the 1980s, Yun wrote the novels My Mother and The Armlet .

Yun now lives in Seoul, where he still works as a writer.
