Ryan DeMichael (born July 12, 1977 in New Philadelphia , Ohio ) is a retired basketball player . Born in the USA, he played as a professional in Europe after completing his studies in his home country, where he spent a total of eight seasons in Germany apart from three seasons , three of them in the top division of the basketball division . After his career as a basketball player ended in 2012, DeMichael, who has had German citizenship since the beginning of 2011 , stayed with his family in Würzburg.
Career
In 1995, DeMichael went to study at the University of Tennessee at Martin , whose Skyhawks basketball team had only been promoted from Division II to the Ohio Valley Conference of NCAA Division I a few years earlier . With this team DeMichael could not celebrate any successes worth mentioning until 1999.
In 1999 DeMichael turned professional and initially played a season in the Finnish Korisliiga for Pussihukat from Vantaa . After this season he moved to Germany in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga Group North for SG from Sechtem . The cooperation partner of the first division team Telekom Baskets Bonn , who had been promoted a year earlier, achieved a midfield placement in each of the following two seasons before DeMichael moved to the Amis du Basketball club from Contern in the Luxembourg Diekirch League . The Luxembourg champions from 2001, who had previously played in the European club competition Korać Cup , won the national championship again in 2004 after a runner-up in 2003.
In 2004 DeMichael returned to Germany and played in the 2nd division 2004/05 Group South for TV Lich, which was a cooperation partner of the first division club Gießen 46ers . The team reached a midfield position in the final table, with DeMichael a double-double with a good 20 points and ten rebounds per game. DeMichael then moved to the second division champions and promoted DJK sellbytel in Nuremberg . In the basketball Bundesliga 2005/06 , the first division newcomer was only on the penultimate place in the table at the end of the season and was only able to stay in the class by increasing the top division. The second first division season was even more unsuccessful and one was again penultimate in the topped up league. After the relegation of Nuremberg, DeMichael switched to previous league competitor Walter Tigers from Tübingen . However, the Tigers only played in the 2007/08 basketball league , albeit successfully, to keep up. Before the end of the season, DeMichael was suspended in Tübingen for disciplinary reasons.
He then signed a contract with Zalakerámia-ZTE KK in Hungary in 2008, but moved to the first division relegated Science City from Jena at the beginning of the season . In the newly created single-track second division ProA , which had replaced the previous regional groups, they reached a sixth place in the 2008/09 season , with DeMichael once again among the top performers of his team with a good eleven points and almost seven rebounds on average. For the ProA 2009/10 DeMichael moved to the table neighbor VfL Knights from Kirchheim unter Teck . The Knights were able to place themselves again in the upper third of the table in the two following seasons and each reached fourth place in the final table. After DeMichael became a German citizen at the beginning of 2011, he moved to the ProA 2011/12 to the newly promoted Nürnberger BC, who had succeeded DeMichael's former club DJK Falke. However, the ambitious newcomer fell short of expectations and only managed to stay in league position in twelfth place in the table. At the beginning of the following season, the now 35-year-old DeMichael, who still had a contract until 2014, decided to end his career.
