The 2005/06 season is the 31st season of the 2nd Bundesliga . The regular season began on October 1, 2005 and ended on April 29, 2006.

mode

Before the start of the season, the league was divided into two seasons (north and south) of sixteen teams each. The season was played in the respective season in the round- robin tournament mode "everyone against everyone" with a round trip. The champions of the two seasons rose to the basketball Bundesliga 2006/07 , while the two worst teams in the final table were relegated to the respective regional leagues.

Season Notes

  • Relegated from the basketball Bundesliga 2004/05 was TSK Würzburg , which started as Mainfranken Basket in the group south. Union Baskets Schwelm, as the second relegated team, withdrew its professional team from play, so that Schalke 04, as a relegated athlete in the previous season, was able to keep the class in the group north.
  • Newcomers from the regional leagues were the Hertener Löwen and Mitteldeutsche BC in the north group and MTV Stuttgart and the COOCOON Baskets Weiden in the south group .
  • Champions of the 2nd basketball league were at the end of the season: Schröno Paderborn Baskets (North) and ratiopharm Ulm (South).
  • While southern champion ratiopharm Ulm rose after only one season defeat at BV Chemnitz 99 , northern champion Schröno Paderborn Baskets managed a perfect season , as TSV Quakenbrück had already achieved in the north group in the 2nd Bundesliga 2002/03 . The Paderborn team claim to have achieved 50 victories in a row across all seasons and have been unbeaten in the second division since December 3, 2004.
  • The financially troubled first division relegated Mainfranken Basket will be passed on to the regional league via TV Langen after just one win of the season on the fourth last match day .
  • After disagreements regarding future promotion regulations to the first division BBL, the league organizations of the BBL and the 2. BBL decide on joint talks, which should later lead to the introduction of a single-track 2. Basketball Bundesliga from 2007.
