The NVV Lions Mönchengladbach were a German basketball team from the city of Mönchengladbach . From 2002 to 2007 you participated in the competition of the 2nd basketball league .

history

The team of the gymnastics club Neuwerk took part in the game operation from the 1990/91 season, they were nicknamed "Lions" and operated under the name Neuwerk Lions. Sebastian Egelhoff was the long-time “doer” and partly also the team's coach. During the 2001/02 season, Niederrheinischeversorgung und Verkehr AG took over the naming rights, and the team was henceforth called NVV Lions Mönchengladbach. In 2002 he was promoted to the 2nd basketball league . From July 1st, 2003 the team was operated by NL Sports GmbH, managing director was Egelhoff. Until March 2004 Aleksandar Aleksic looked after the team as a coach, his successor was Carsten Pohl . Three times the northern season of the second division was completed as eighth in the table, which was the best placement of the Mönchengladbach second division time.

In the 2006/07 season , Mönchengladbach missed the leap into the ProA as part of the reorganization of the 2nd Bundesliga . After the end of the 2006/07 game year, coach Pohl split up. Since the ProB was classified as unattractive by the team management, among other things because of the few participating clubs from North Rhine-Westphalia , the NVV Lions voluntarily relegated to the 1st Regionalliga West. Björn Gieseck coached the team in the 2007/08 season , with Robert Shepherd taking over. At the end of the 2008/09 season, the NVV AG withdrew as namesake of the team. From then on, Lions Mönchengladbach took part in the game, but was subsequently plagued by economic worries and slipped into the relegation battle of the regional league in the 2009/10 season.

In the last season 2010/11 Axel Gruhn acted as player-coach. In autumn 2011, the team was logged off from the game shortly before the start of the season.
