Axel Pleuger

Axel Pleuger (born August 14, 1978 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a former German basketball player . The 2.14 meter tall indoor player was active during his professional career for the Bundesliga clubs Leverkusen, Bamberg and Bremerhaven and played in the Spanish ACB league .

career

Pleuger went through the youth department of TV Bensberg before moving to Bayer Leverkusen . For the works team, he played in the Bundesliga and in European club competitions. In 1999 he went from Leverkusen to Bamberg (then TSK universa) within the Bundesliga . In the spring of 2001 Pleuger moved to the Spanish top club Pamesa Valencia and played there until the end of the 2000/01 season (six appearances). In the following season (2001/02) he was in the service of CB Ourense in Spain's second division.

Pleuger returned to Germany in 2002 and played one season each for the second division club Düsseldorf Magics (2002/03) and NVV Lions Mönchengladbach (2003/04). In Mönchengladbach he recorded excellent values ​​with averages of 14.8 points and 14.3 rebounds per encounter. With the Eisbären Bremerhaven he  rose from the second to the first Bundesliga in the 2004/05 season, where he was also part of the polar bear squad in 2005/06.

At the end of his competitive sports career he played for the second division Cuxhaven BasCats in the 2006/07 season .

Further career

After the end of his career as a professional basketball player, Pleuger returned to his learned profession as a banker . He was branch manager at Sparkasse Bremerhaven and moved back to the Rhineland in 2009 to become branch manager at the Bergisch Gladbach branch of Kreissparkasse Cologne . Pleuger is also a member of the supervisory board of the Ev. Altenheim Wahlscheid eV
