Timothy James Black (born April 30, 1981 in Richmond , Virginia ) is a retired American basketball player . Black achieved promotion to the basketball league with the Paderborn Baskets from Germany and became the " top scorer " of the basketball league in 2007/08 . From 2008 he played five seasons in Belgium for the Antwerp Giants, with whom he twice reached the quarter-finals in the EuroChallenge .

Career

The 1.78 m tall and 75 kg heavy point guard studied at Barton College in Wilson (North Carolina) and played for the college team Bulldogs for four years in the NCAA Division II. Here he was the most with 1,836 points at the end of his four years of study Scored points that each player scored for the Bulldogs in Division II and was only exceeded in 2013. He was later called for his services to the "All-Time Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference" of the NCAA Division II Conference CVAC.

In 2003 Black started a professional career and went to Germany to join the NVV Lions from Mönchengladbach in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga Group North. After a year he was signed in 2004 as top scorer in the 2-league with over 30 points per game by the more ambitious Paderborn Baskets, which at that time operated as Schröno Paderborn Baskets . In 2006, after 50 consecutive wins across all seasons, he was promoted to the first basketball league . In the first year, Black missed the start of the season due to injury and needed some time to find his role again, so that his points average dropped to a good 12 points per game. In the second year Black was able to increase his points average to over 20 points per game, as he had already achieved for Paderborn in the second division. This made him the top scorer of the main round in the first division in the 2007/08 season . In the summer of 2008 Black tried to get a place in the American professional league NBA via the NBA Summer League with the Indiana Pacers . When this did not succeed, he moved to Belgium to the Antwerp Diamond Giants.

In Antwerp, Black played in Belgium's first division and in European Cup until 2013. In the 2011/12 season he was selected by the specialist portal eurobasket.com as the Belgian league's “Builder of the Year”. In the 2013/14 season he played for the Italian club Azzurro Napoli Basket and then ended his playing career.

He returned to his home country, initially working in sports retail, then in banking. He remained connected to basketball as a trainer for a provider of training lessons and youth camps. From February 2017 he worked as a coach in youth work for the NBA club Portland Trail Blazers .

In 2015, Barton was inducted into the Barton College Hall of Fame.
