The Saar-Palatinate BRAVES (former name Kaiserslautern BRAVES , from English (the) braves = (the) courageous ) were a basketball team from Homburg . Until 2012 they played in the ProA league .

history

The Saar-Pfalz Braves came from the basketball department of 1. FC Kaiserslautern . The Kaiserslautern Braves GmbH , founded in 2007, took over the license of the 1st men's team of 1. FC Kaiserslautern for the 2nd basketball league after the 2006/07 season. Thus the Braves and 1. FCK were legally separated from each other and only cooperation partners in the amateur and youth sector. The now A-team of the FCK (former B-team) plays in the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar .

The basketball department of 1. FC Kaiserslautern was founded in the 1950s. The men's A team achieved its big breakthrough in the 2001/02 season with promotion to the 2nd South Basketball League. At the end of the first second division season the team finished in 16th place and relegation could only be secured by Eintracht Frankfurt's withdrawal from the league. After a 13th place in the 2003/04 season, the Baskets were able to establish themselves in the 2nd division and finished the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons in a good fourth place. In the 2006/07 season, FCK played for a long time for promotion to the first division, but ultimately had to be satisfied with the runner-up in the second division south. With this second place in the final table, however, the FCK had qualified for the newly created single-track Second League (ProA).

After this season the company was spun off from 1. FCK and renamed Kaiserslautern Braves. In addition, the name of the association was changed to a GmbH. When the home games were held in Homburg from the beginning of the 2008/2009 season, the club initially competed under the name teckpro BRAVES.

Since the 2009/2010 season, the BRAVES had completely moved to Homburg and continued to compete in the second ProA basketball league under the name Saar-Pfalz BRAVES. With Nenad Josipović a ProA and BBL experienced coach could be engaged. From now on, the strings were pulled from the new office at Berliner Str. 130 in Homburg and the organization developed. For the current season, the creation of structures and a placement in the top third of the table was the declared aim of the BRAVES managers. After a poor start to the 2011/2012 season, coach Nenad Josipovic was relieved of his duties in December 2011.

Venue

In the 2007/2008 season, the sports hall of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern hosted the home games. Since the 2008/2009 season, the Erbach sports center with a capacity of 3,900 spectators has been the home ground of the Braves.

retreat

Due to financial problems due to the loss of two main sponsors, the managing director announced at the end of June 2012 to withdraw from gaming operations.
