Marco Amelow

Marco Amelow (born July 17, 1974 ) is a German basketball coach .

career

Amelow, who comes from near Berlin and never played basketball but handball himself, was youth coach at BBC Bayreuth from 1996 and became assistant to head coach Bruce Enns . When the Canadian submitted his resignation in February 2003, Amelow took over the post at the second division and held this post until February 2008 when he resigned.

For the 2008/09 season he was head coach of the Luxembourg first division club AB Contern and led the team in his first year in office to win the championship. He was then named “Coach of the Year” in the Luxembourg league by the internet portal eurobasket.com . In February 2010 he was released in Contern. Previously there had been three defeats in a row in the league and the team was eliminated in the cup semi-finals. According to Amelow's account, Contern's manager had made player transfers without prior coordination.

At the end of 2011 Amelow was hired by the Saar-Palatinate Braves from the 2nd Bundesliga ProA as head coach. After the 2011/12 season, the team withdrew from the league and Amelow turned his back on professional sport.

For the 2015/16 season he took over the coaching position at BBC Eckersdorf (at that time regional league).

In addition to his commitment to BBC Eckersdorf, he has been the head coach of the company basketball team at CYBEX in Bayreuth since autumn 2014.
