Citybasket Recklinghausen is a basketball club from Recklinghausen . The venues for the numerous teams are the Vestische Arena Alfons Schütt, which has around 800 seats (without temporary, makeshift seats on the sports area), and the sports hall of the Kuniberg Kolleg in Recklinghausen, which has around 600 seats.

history

In the fall of 1976, a private basketball group joined TV 1863 Recklinghausen as a department. This was the first time that organized basketball was operated in Recklinghausen.

At the head of the basketball players was Werner Geske , a former national basketball player. Training started in Recklinghausen-Süd, in the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium. In September 1982, with the opening of the new sports hall at the Petrinum grammar school, the basketball department had its own sports hall. The start as a basketball department in TV 1863 took place with four groups, including one women's group.

In the 1977/78 season, the championship began with a women's and a men's team. In December 1977 the department already had 85 members.

Under Werner Geske's direction, the department grew and new teams were formed. In the 1978/79 season there were already five teams, including two youth teams. In 1979 there were eight teams and the men were promoted to the 1st district league. In 1980 the basketball department had 110 members. When Dietmar Tottmann took over the department, it had reached a size that required it to become independent. In 1994 the basketball department separated from TSV 1863 Recklinghausen and founded their own club, Citybasket Recklinghausen .
