Andreas Wagner (born February 19, 1976 in Munich ) is a German basketball coach .

Coaching career

Wagner worked in the mid / late 1990s as an assistant coach for the women's team at Marymount College in the United States and then took over the management of the men's team at TSV München-Ost in the 2nd regional league.

From 1999 Wagner was the head coach of the men's team at FC Bayern Munich , which he led to the championship title in the 1st Regionalliga Süd-Ost and thus promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2004. He also worked temporarily as a selection trainer for the Bavarian Basketball Association. After the 2004/05 season he left the head coach at Bayern and was assistant coach in the 2005/06 season. For the 2006/07 season he moved to Luxembourg, where he was the head coach of BBC Résidence Walferdange and helped the club to rise to the top division.

Between 2007 and 2009, Wagner then worked as the head coach of TSV Nördlingen . In his first season he led the club as a champion from the second to the first Bundesliga and managed to stay in the BBL in the following season with the Nördlingers (sporty), but the club decided to withdraw for financial reasons. For the 2009/10 season he took over the post of head coach at BBC Bayreuth and also led this club into the top German league: Under Wagner's leadership, Bayreuth had won the championship title of the second division and stayed in the Bundesliga in the 2010/11 season. In October 2011 Wagner was released: In the first four games of the 2011/12 BBL season there were only defeats, the club then released Wagner from his position as head coach.

In December 2011, Wagner was appointed national coach of the German women's national team, before moving to the coaching staff of Bundesliga club FC Bayern Munich in October 2012 , where he worked as an assistant coach. In June 2013, his contract was extended for another two years. In the summer of 2015 he left Bavaria and switched to the 2nd Bundesliga ProA as head coach at SC Rasta Vechta . He led the club to the ProA runner-up in the 2015/16 season and thus to promotion to the basketball league . On February 7, 2017, Wagner was given leave of absence from SC Rasta after 14 defeats in a row.

In August 2017 he signed a contract as an assistant coach at the Bundesliga club Ratiopharm Ulm . At the beginning of June 2018 he left the club with an exit clause. Wagner returned to FC Bayern and took over the post of coach of the U19 team in the youth basketball league . At the end of May 2019, Bayern's youngsters won the championship title in the U19 Bundesliga under Wagner's leadership. During the 2020 summer break, Wagner switched to the position of head coach of the second Bayern men's team (2nd Bundesliga ProB).
