Monta McGhee (born November 11, 1979 ) is a retired American basketball player . After studying in his home country, McGhee turned pro in Europe. McGhee became national champions in Denmark and the Netherlands with their respective teams. After he was runner-up in the second highest German division ProA 2007/08 with the Cuxhaven BasCats , he also played a season in the highest German division for the Giants Nördlingen. In the basketball league 2008/09 he was the tenth-best scorer with an average of 14 points per game and an average of 8 rebounds, the third-best rebounder of the season. He later played in the Netherlands, Belgium and Israel.

Career

In Chicago grew McGhee began a study in 2000 on Kishwaukee College in Malta (Illinois) , where he worked for the college team Kougars in the National Junior College Athletic Association played. He has twice won the best player in the NJCAA-Conference, in which the Kougars played, and 2012 for his sporting achievements in the "Athletic Hall of Fame" ( German  sportsman's Hall of Fame added this college). To continue his studies, McGhee stayed in Illinois and went to Lewis University in Romeoville . For their college team Flyers he played in the NCAA Division II. In his second year, he was named one of the 16 best players (" All-American ") of Division II by the Association of American College Basketball Coaches (NABC) .

As a Division II player, McGhee had no great chance of a lucrative professional contract after completing his studies in 2004. Nevertheless, he began a career as a professional player and initially got a contract in the insignificant Danish league. After a season he moved to Horsens in 2005 to the Idræts Club , which is one of the most successful basketball teams in Denmark . With this team he won the championship against defending champion Bakken Bears in 2006 for the fourth time in the club's history . A year later they finished third in the play-offs for the championship. Then McGhee moved to neighboring Germany from the Baltic Sea - to the North Sea coast to the BasCats from Cuxhaven . The Cuxhavener reached in the second division ProA 2007/08 as runner-up a promotion place, but could not take advantage of this because they had no prospect of a license for economic and infrastructural reasons. McGhee was named December 2007 Player of the Month in the ProA . After the season he moved together with his Cuxhaven teammate Danny Gibson to the same point champions VPV Giants from Nördlingen , who had received a license for the basketball Bundesliga and were promoted. In the basketball Bundesliga 2008/09 , the newly promoted Giants Nördlingen was able to hold up surprisingly well and achieved relegation with McGhee in front of the more established clubs LTi Gießen 46ers and Eisbären Bremerhaven . For economic reasons, the Nördlinger waived another first division season and voluntarily relegated to the ProA. McGhee moved again with Gibson to the neighboring country Netherlands and played for the club from Leiden . After the team had just lost to eventual champions GasTerra Flames in the semi-final series of the championship play-offs in 2010 , Gibson moved back to Germany as top scorer of the Dutch Basketball League to the first division promoted BBC Bayreuth . McGhee stayed with Zorg en Zekerheid , the team's sponsor name , and won the second championship for this club after 33 years in a dramatic final series in seven games against defending champion GasTerra Flames. In the 2011/12 season he played in neighboring Belgium for the Bears from Leuven , but they could not place in the front of the Ethias League . For the season 2012/13 McGhee then got a contract in the second Israeli league Leumit with Elitzur from Jawne .
