founding

In the summer of 2017, the Rackelos took over the license from the Licher BasketBears , who previously competed in the ProB and were cooperation partners of the 46ers. In May of the same year, shareholders of the Lich team resigned, the second team of TV Lich, qualified for the 1st regional league, waived the acquisition of the ProB license.

As a result, a relicensing procedure was initiated by the league, which was approved in mid-July 2017 by majority decision of the ProB teams.

history

The main round in the premiere season ended for the Rackelos with second place in the table. In the second round of the playoffs, the 46ers defeated BAWE Oldenburg / OTB 2-0. Only in the quarterfinals was it over after a close series against the Rostock Seawolves . Large parts of the previous year's squad were retained in the 2018/19 season . After a series of defeats in autumn, the rackelos slipped out of the playoff places. Then the team caught up and finished the season again in second place in the table. In the last sixteen you could defeat the Itzehoe Eagles , before a 100: 101 after extra time against Schwenningen in the decisive third game meant the season out in the quarterfinals .

In the third season in the club's history, the Rackelos closed in sixth place and would have received Münster in the round of 16. In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic , the season was declared over shortly before the start of the championship round .

Surname

At the end of July 2017, a competition was launched in which suggestions about the name of the future ProB team could be submitted. The jury consisted of former basketball players, journalists and marketing experts, among others. The only requirement when choosing a name was that the addition "GIESSEN 46ers" had to be retained.

At the end of August 2017, a decision was made in favor of the name Rackelos. The term comes from the manic , a sociolectal variety spoken in Giessen, and means boy , child or offspring . The reason was that the name symbolized the roots in the city. The team name was changed in the middle of December 2017 in the 2017/2018 season after Depant Bauträger GmbH & Co. KG took over the naming rights. From then on, they entered the race as Depant GIESSEN 46ers Rackelos.

  • August to December 2017: GIESSEN 46ers Rackelos
  • Since December 2017: Depant GIESSEN 46ers Rackelos
