Career

Beginnings in the NBBL and ProA

The Zipser, who grew up in Dossenheim , attended the Bunsen grammar school in Heidelberg . He came to basketball at the age of twelve, having previously played football, among other things. As a teenager, he already belonged to various teams of the German Basketball Federation and was a participant in the U16 European Championships in 2010 and the U18 European Championships in 2011 and 2012. At the international Albert Schweitzer Tournament in 2012, he was a member of the "All Tournament Team" after he had reached the semi-finals with the German selection. Previously, in January 2012, he had already been awarded the MVP of the southern selection at the All-Star Game of the youth basketball division (NBBL) , which won the game. From 2010 he played in the NBBL for the basket college Rhein-Neckar as well as for the first team of the old master USC Heidelberg in the second German league ProA . He made his professional senior debut at the age of 16 on the first matchday of ProA 2010/11 on September 25, 2010 when he lost to the later promoted FC Bayern Munich. After three more missions, Zipser was one of the regular members of his team in the ProA 2011/12 and was deployed for an average of 20 minutes in 22 missions. He was named the best young player for Youngster of the Month November 2011 by the league. The USC missed in tenth place the move into the play-offs for promotion only to a win.

Bundesliga player at Bayern Munich

In the 2012/13 season , Zipser only made two season appearances after a protracted ankle injury. Nonetheless, in January 2013 he moved to Bayern Munich in the top German basketball division with immediate effect . Here he came on a short assignment.

After recovering from his injury, he only came to individual missions in the following 2013/14 season with an average of a good five minutes playing time. Towards the end of the season, however, he got more trust from coach Svetislav Pešić and had also been on the floor for a long time in international games in the ULEB Euroleague 2013/14 . In the first play-off round for the German championship, Zipser was injured and could no longer be used when Bayern won their first championship title in 59 years.

In the 2014/15 season Zipser was on the field for an average of more than twelve minutes and scored 4.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

In the following season ( 2015/16 season ) Zipser scored an average of 7.1 points and 3.6 rebounds. At the end of the season he was voted the best young German player .

NBA player with the Chicago Bulls

Zipser was selected 48th place by the Chicago Bulls in the 2016 NBA Draft . On July 15, 2016, he signed a two-year deal with the Bulls. His contract with FC Bayern Munich contained a release clause in the event of a move to the NBA, and Bayern received a transfer fee of an unknown amount. Zipser played his first NBA game on October 29, 2016 against the Indiana Pacers . After the Chicago Bulls with Paul Zipser just reached the playoffs in his first season, they were defeated in the first round of the championship round to the Boston Celtics 2: 4. Zipser finished the main round with an average of 5.5 points in 44 inserts. In his second NBA season, his playing time decreased and Zipser came in 54 missions to 4.0 points per game with a weak throw rate of 34.6 percent. As part of the signing of Jabari Parker , the Bulls released Zipser in summer 2018. Zipser said he suffered persistent pain in his left foot during his second season. A fatigue fracture in the foot, which Zipser probably suffered during the season and which went undetected in Chicago, was only diagnosed during the summer break in Germany. Zipser then completed reconstruction training in his home town of Heidelberg. Regarding his plans for the future, Zipser stated in autumn 2018 that he only wanted to join a club again after he had fully recovered and went on: “Then we will let all the teams who were interested know that I am ready. My goal is very clear to get back to the NBA. ”In January 2019, according to media reports, he was about to move to the Brooklyn Nets , but it burst.
