The Bunsen-Gymnasium is a state high school in Heidelberg with around 950 students and around 80 teachers. It is named after the chemist Robert Wilhelm Bunsen , who worked for a long time at the University of Heidelberg .
history
The grammar school was originally an all-boys school. From 1969 on, girls were also accepted into the so-called French train, with French as the first foreign language. However, this only affected one of five classes in grade 5; the other four classes started with Latin or English as their first foreign language and continued to consist only of male students. The grammar school has only been fully mixed-sex since 1973.
Building / location
The school is located on the edge of Neuenheimer Feld , where part of the university is also located. The school building was built in 1952 based on Italian palace buildings with extensions in 1953, 1955 (gym), 1965 and 1971. Since November 2016, the Bunsen grammar school has also had a new building in which all natural science subjects are taught. In June 2017, the group of architects and the city planners were awarded the so-called Hugo Häring Award by the Association of German Architects (BDA) for the new extension .
Courses offered
The courses offered by the school are both foreign-language and natural-science oriented.
The school is one of the 45 German grammar schools of the AbiBac agreement, which guarantees full recognition of the general higher education entrance qualification in France. This agreement was signed on May 31, 1994 between the governments of the Federal Republic of Germany and France. The partner school in the AbiBac program is the Lycée Stanislas in Wissembourg in Alsace .
In addition, the school participates in the widespread DELF program, a certification program for the French language.
The following profiles are available for the students to choose from:
- bilingual (bilingual) profile
- Modern language profile
- scientific-mathematical profile.
Cooperations
The nearby Institute for Environmental Physics at Heidelberg University provides the school with regular weather data .
There has been a cooperation with the Institute for Sport and Sport Science for years, within the framework of which specialist students can regularly gain teaching experience with pupils in their regular physical education lessons and, for their part, enable the pupils to gain learning experiences through their participation in extraordinary and more personnel-intensive teaching projects (including in small groups) ordinary lessons with the teachers alone could not win.
