Adaptation (information technology)

The adaptation (actually adaptation : from Latin adaptare in the Customize =) Information technology is the adaptation of hardware , software or data and information to changing circumstances and environments.

The adaptation can be carried out on different objects and with the help of different configurations. The hardware and software are referred to as migration .

There are various reasons for the need to adapt data and information:

  1. Change of hardware environment / platform
  2. Change of software environment
  3. Adaptation to a new user group
  4. Adaptation to changed basic data (e.g. cartographic material from atlases or geographic information systems)

Data and information can be adapted in different ways, specifically with regard to theirs

  1. Format
  2. their type of presentation, e.g. B. as graphics or as text
  3. their scope, e.g. B. by extension or reduction
