Anselm Kratochwil

Anselm Kratochwil (born February 5, 1951 in Heidelberg ) is a German biologist , retired university professor and representative of biocenology .

biography

After graduating from the Bunsen-Gymnasium Heidelberg , Anselm Kratochwil studied zoology , geobotany , limnology and soil science at the University of Freiburg from 1972 to 1978 and graduated in 1978. Dissertation with Hannes F. Paulus at the Zoological Institute of the University of Freiburg on the subject of " Flower-Insect- Communities of a no longer cultivated semi-arid grassland in the Kaiserstuhl: Aspects of co-phenology, biogeography and co-evolution. A contribution to flower ecology based on the sociology of plants ". In 1983 he received the Goedecke Research Prize of the University of Freiburg, one of the highest awards in the field of natural sciences in Freiburg, for his work, which he completed with " summa cum laude " .

From 1982 to 1986 Kratochwil was a research assistant at the Biological Institute II of the University of Freiburg, chair of geobotany with Otti Wilmanns . Then from 1987 to 1989 he was a fellow of the German Research Foundation .

From 1989 to 1992, Kratochwil held a teaching position at the Biological Institute I (Zoology) of the University of Freiburg in the fields of biocenology and animal ecology, where he completed his habilitation in 1990 in ecology . Awarded the venia legendi by the Senate of the University of Freiburg; Private lecturer at the Faculty of Biology at the University of Freiburg. In 1990 and 1991 Kratochwil was visiting professor at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna and the University of Utrecht .

In 1992 he was appointed to succeed Helmut Lieth at the University of Osnabrück as full professor of ecology. There he is the chairman of the working group " Ecological and Socio-Economic Systems Research " at the University of Osnabrück. He is the director of the Institute for Environmental Systems Research at the University of Osnabrück and Deputy Director of the Botanical Garden at the University of Osnabrück. From 1998 to 1999, Kratochwil was Dean of the Biology / Chemistry Department at the University of Osnabrück. Anselm Kratochwil retired on March 31, 2013.

Anselm Kratochwil is married to the botanist Angelika Schwabe-Kratochwil , with whom he has a son (Claudius, * 1983).
