Wolfgang Ernst (* 1957 in Eppelheim ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2000 to 2016 he was Lord Mayor of the large district town of Leimen in the Electoral Palatinate .

Life

Wolfgang Ernst grew up in Eppelheim, where he also attended elementary school. In 1976 he graduated from the Bunsen Gymnasium in Heidelberg . He completed an apprenticeship in the higher municipal political administration service at the city administration of Mannheim . In 1980 he received the title of Diplom-Verwaltungswirt (FH) at the Kehl University of Applied Sciences . He then studied law . After his first state examination in 1985, he did a traineeship at the Wiesloch District Court and then a teaching position at the University of Montpellier .

He worked at the Heidelberg district office , the Karlsruhe regional council and the legal department of Daimler-Benz in Stuttgart, followed by his second state examination in January 1990. From 1990 to 1992 he worked at the Südwestdeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale in Mannheim and Stuttgart. From 1992 Wolfgang Ernst was assistant to General Director Wolfgang Wild at the German Agency for Space Affairs (DARA) in Bonn . There he was also a delegate to the European Space Agency (ESA) in Paris . From April 1998 to 2000 he worked for the department for cooperation with the Central and Eastern European countries of a ministry.

Wolfgang Ernst took over the office of Lord Mayor of Leimen from Herbert Ehrbar , who was mayor of the city ​​for more than three decades until 2000. In the first ballot on March 19, 2000, the CDU candidate Bruno Sauerzapf was still ahead with 44.52 percent of the valid votes; Wolfgang Ernst won the runoff on April 9, 2000 with 55.73 percent of the valid votes. When he was re-elected in 2008, Wolfgang Ernst also had to go to the runoff: On April 27, 2008, he was elected for a second term with 53.97 percent of the valid votes. In the subsequent election in March 2016, Ernst did not run again. Hans D. Reinwald from the CDU, who was previously mayor of Graben-Neudorf, was elected to succeed him . Reinwald took office on June 11, 2016.
