Wolfgang Haubold (born March 12, 1937 in Wolfen , Bitterfeld district ) is a German chemist and former President of the University of Hohenheim .

biography

Haubold attended elementary school in Bitterfeld from 1943. Together with his family he moved to Heidelberg in 1950 and attended the Bunsen-Gymnasium there until he graduated from high school in 1956. He completed his subsequent chemistry studies at the Universities of Heidelberg and Karlsruhe in 1962 with an exam to become a qualified chemist. During his studies he was a working student at Bayer , BASF and Knapsack , and was active in the Wingolf student associations in Heidelberg and Karlsruhe. To the Dr. rer nat. doctorate was Haubold 1965 at Margot Becke-Goehring during his time as an assistant in Heidelberg.

After studying at Indiana University Bloomington (USA) and working as an assistant to Ekkehard Fluck at the University of Stuttgart for several years , he completed his habilitation and venia legendi for the subject of inorganic chemistry. In 1980 he was appointed professor of inorganic and analytical chemistry at the University of Hohenheim , where after a few months he also became head of the State Institute for Chemistry.

As dean he headed the Faculty of General and Applied Natural Sciences from 1983 to 1985, from 1986 to 1990 he was Vice President and from 1990 to 1994 President of the University of Hohenheim. During his presidency, the university celebrated its 175th anniversary with year-round series of events; the international horticultural exhibition in Stuttgart and the first discussions on the internationalization of the courses (Bachelor, Master degrees). The founding of the Hohenheim East Europe Center with intensive student and professor exchanges with Eastern European universities and agricultural schools goes back to his initiative. Until his retirement from active service in 2003, he remained the head of the Eastern Europe Center.

Wolfgang Haubold has been married to Renate born in 1967. Hammann (daughter of Oberkirchenrat Ernst Hammann Karlsruhe) and has two grown sons.
