Franz Jacob Wagner (born August 27, 2001 in Berlin ) is a German basketball player .

career

Moritz Wagner's younger brother made his debut in the basketball Bundesliga at the end of April 2018 after appearances in the youth team at Alba Berlin and in the second men's team (Regionalliga) . At the age of 16, he replaced his brother Moritz as the youngest player to ever wear the Alba shirt in a Bundesliga match. At the end of the season, he became German champions with the Alba youth team . Wagner was also named League Newcomer of the Year and Best Player of the Final Tournament. In August 2018 he was invited to "Basketball without Borders Europe", a training camp organized by the NBA and the world association FIBA , but had to cancel due to an injury. From the 2018/19 season, Wagner was not only used at Alba Berlin, but also at its cooperation club SSV Lokomotive Bernau in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB thanks to a double license . In the 2018/19 season he was awarded the “Best German Young Player U22” award from the Basketball Bundesliga. With the Berliners he was runner-up, Wagner had contributed an average of 4.6 points per mission on the way to silver in 35 Bundesliga games.

He was considering going to the United States like his brother Moritz to play basketball in the NCAA college league and was  announced as a new addition by the University of Michigan in July 2019 . Moritz Wagner had already played and studied there. Franz Wagner was a top performer in Michigan in the 2019/20 season, at the beginning of which he was out due to a wrist injury, with 11.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per match, these values ​​exceeded those of his brother in his brother's first NCAA season 2015 / 16 clearly.

National team

In the summer of 2017 he was part of the German U16 squad that took part in the European Championship in Montenegro . With the German U18 national team, he won the Albert Schweitzer tournament in spring 2018 . In 2019 he finished eleventh with Germany in the U18 European Championship and was the best scorer of the German team with 13 points per match.
