İsmet Akpınar (born May 22, 1995 in Hamburg ) is a German - Turkish basketball player . Akpınar made his debut at the age of 16 in the third-highest German division ProB for men and moved to the first division club Alba Berlin in 2013 . In 2014, the German youth international won the runner-up with the men's team from Alba and the German championship with the juniors in the junior basketball league (NBBL), where he was named “ Most Valuable Player (MVP)”).
Career
Akpınar began his career in the youth department of BC Hamburg . In the ProB 2011/12 , Akpınar was already regularly used in the men's team at SC Rist Wedel at the age of 16 and there, including the following season, averaged almost 20 minutes per game. Akpınar played for the Hamburg cooperation team Piraten in the NBBL and was named Rookie of the Year in the NBBL in 2012, having received the award for best player in the youth basketball league (JBBL) a year earlier . In the home win of the Pirates Hamburg in February 2013 against the Metropol Baskets Ruhr, Akpınar set a new record for the NBBL with 49 points scored in one game.
For the 2013/14 season Akpınar was committed by the first division club Alba Berlin. In addition to the junior team in the NBBL, Akpınar was initially mainly used in the reserve team in the regional league . With the Alba Juniors, Akpınar moved into the NBBL Top Four for the first time in four years , where the Alba Juniors won their second NBBL championship title after 2009. After Akpınar had already received the award as the best player of the season, he was named the first ever MVP of the final tournament after winning the championship. In Alba’s first division team, Akpınar only had five short appearances in the basketball league in 2013/14 as well as one use in the play-offs for the championship, when Alba finally lost the final series of the championship against the main round first FC Bayern Munich and was runner-up in the men's category has been.

The development player rejected an offer from Ulm to extend his contract and left the team during the 2019 summer break.
In summer 2019 he left the Bundesliga and joined the Turkish first division club Besiktas Istanbul , with whom he also took part in the basketball Champions League . After the end of the game year in the Turkish league due to the COVID-19 pandemic , FC Bayern Munich signed him for the Bundesliga season-end tournament at the end of May 2020 .
In July 2020, his move to the Turkish club Bahçeşehir Basketbol was announced.
National team
Akpınar took part with the youth teams of the German Basketball Federation in the 2011 U16 European Championship, the 2012 Albert Schweitzer Tournament , the 2012 and 2013 U18 European Championship (B group) and the 2014 U20 European Championship and 2015. In the summer of 2017, he was appointed to the German senior national team for the first time and took part in the European Championship that same year . At the 2019 World Cup , he scored an average of 4.2 points per encounter in five tournament games.

His brother Mutlu , who is twelve years older than him, is also a basketball player and has been playing in the top Turkish division Türkiye Basketbol Ligi for more than a decade .
