Reginald Fredrick "Reggie" Bassette (born November 22, 1977 in Williamsburg , Virginia ) is a retired American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Bassette became a professional in Europe, where, after a stint in Cyprus, he also worked for Avitos Gießen and RheinEnergy Cologne in the German basketball league . With the Cologne team, Bassette became the German runner-up as Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the BBL All-Star Games 2002. After working in Israel , South Korea , France , Belgium and Hungary , Bassette was no longer professionally active after 2008.

Career

Bassette went to 1995 to study at Old Dominion University in Norfolk , where he played for the Monarchs college team in the NCAA's Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) . In 1997 he won the CAA championship tournament with the team, which secured participation in the national NCAA finals . Here they failed in the first round due to a surprise when they were defeated by the strongly favored Lobos of the University of New Mexico with only four points difference . After one could not defend the title in the CAA in the following two seasons, Bassette could not present himself in the NCAA finals until the end of his college career in 1999. So he tried in 1999 in the summer league United States Basketball League (USBL) with the Kansas Cagerz for a lucrative professional contract to be recommended.

Finally, Bassette signed a contract with Athlitiki Enosi Lemesou from Limassol in the Republic of Cyprus for the 1999/2000 season . After he was allowed to participate in a training camp of the NBA club Milwaukee Bucks in the summer of 2000 , where he could not recommend himself for a contract, he was then signed for the following season by the traditional German club MTV 1846 Gießen, which was in the 2000 Bundesliga / 01 competed under the sponsor name Avitos . After a fourth place in the main round, they had no chance in the play-off semi-final series against series champion ALBA Berlin . For the following season, Bassette was signed by the ambitious newcomer RheinEnergy Cologne, who had skipped the 2nd Bundesliga basketball league thanks to the license from the neighboring Rhöndorfer TV . Under the former German national coach and Berlin master coach Svetislav Pešić , the team immediately reached the final series of the championship in the 2001/02 basketball Bundesliga , in which, however, defending champion ALBA Berlin also had to admit defeat. Bassette was previously a participant in the 2002 BBL All-Star Game and was named the MVP of that game. In the summer break of 2002 he tried to recommend himself to the Dodge City Legends for a professional contract in his home country via the USBL.

For the 2002/03 season, Bassette went to Israel in the Galilean Kfar Blum to Hapoel Galil Elyon, who at the end of the season did not get beyond a seventh place in the Ligat ha'Al . In the 2003/04 season Bassette played in the Korean Basketball League for Mobis Phoebus from Ulsan and finally for KCC Egis from Jeonju , who won the title at the end of the season. Then Bassette was allowed to play in the NBA Summer League 2004 for the Dallas Mavericks , without a long-term contract resulted for him. He returned to Israel for the 2004/05 season, but his new team Maccabi from Givat Shmuel did not get past seventh place either. For the 2005/06 season, Bassette moved to the French Ligue Nationale de Basket for the first division club "Jeunesse laïque" from Bourg-en-Bresse . The team just reached the qualification for the play-offs for the championship, in which they lost to the fifth-placed team Le Mans Sarthe Basket , which then marched through to win the title. In the 2006/07 season, Bassette was then active for the Belgian first division club Euphony from Bree . After a knee injury in February 2007, the season for Bassette ended prematurely, while his team narrowly lost the final series of the championship against defending champion Telindus Oostende . In the 2007/08 season, Bassette had a comeback in his engagement for the Hungarian first division club Zalakerámia-ZTE from Zalaegerszeg , which, however, missed the play-offs for the championship. Subsequently, Bassette was no longer professionally active.
