Philipp Schwethelm (born May 1, 1989 in Engelskirchen ) is a German basketball player . He is under contract with EWE Baskets Oldenburg in the basketball league .

Career

Philipp Schwethelm started playing basketball at TV Bensberg at the age of six . He later moved to TSV Bayer Leverkusen , but soon came back to Bensberg. In 2001 he won the West German Championship with the D-Jugend of TV Bensberg. He then moved to the neighboring club Cologne 99ers and celebrated his debut in the basketball Bundesliga in October 2005 at the age of 16 . Schwethelm played for the Eisbären Bremerhaven from 2009 to 2011 and was able to move into the play-offs with his team in 2010 and 2011 . For the 2011/2012 season , Schwethelm moved within the league to newly promoted FC Bayern Munich .

For the 2012/2013 season, Schwethelm extended his contract in Munich early on until 2014. Due to the decreasing playing time in the Bayern squad, however, he was awarded within the league for the 2012/2013 season, where he ran for ratiopharm ulm . On June 24, 2013, FC Bayern München Basketball and ratiopharm ulm announced that the existing contract in Munich had been terminated and Philipp Schwethelm had signed a contract in Ulm until 2015.

After his contract expired, Schwethelm did not receive a new contract in Ulm and switched to EWE Baskets Oldenburg within the league .

National team

Schwethelm represented the selected teams of the German Basketball Federation in the age groups U16, U18 and U20 and took part in a total of four European championship tournaments in the junior area. In July 2010 he made his debut in the German senior national team . He took part in the 2010 World Cup and the 2011 European Championship, where he played what was probably the best international match of his career against Turkey and in the final phase of the encounter guaranteed victory in the DBB selection. In May 2015 Schwethelm announced his resignation from the national team.
