In July 2011, Parker attended the LeBron James Skill Academy and was then invited to the Nike Global Challenge in August . Parker became the tournament's MVP . In his junior season he set a new record for Simeon in the game against Perspectives High School with 40 points in 21 minutes, 16 rebounds and 6 blocks .

That year he received scholarship offers from Duke University , the University of Kansas , Brigham Young University , the University of Kentucky and the UNC, among others .

Parker received numerous personal awards again this year, including an election to the All-State First Team of Group 4A, a unanimous election to the All-State Team of the Associated Press and the Chicago Tribune. He was named Illinois Gatorade Youth Player of the Year and was the first player to be awarded the Illinois Mr. Basketball title by the Chicago Tribune with the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association prior to his senior year of college .

On April 12th his election as Gatorade Youth Player of the Year was announced. He was only the fourth player in the penultimate high school year to receive this honor after LeBron James , Greg Oden and Brandon Knight . In the election for ESPN HS Mr. Basketball USA, he finished second behind Shabazz Muhammad . ESPN HS and MaxPreps.com each voted him Junior of the Year 2012. He was also a member of the ESPN HS boys' high school basketball All-American team, the USA Today All-USA high school basketball team and the SLAM Magazine HS All-American team elected.

Jabari Parker in January 2013

In the summer of 2012, Parker was able to win the U17 World Championship with the US team, but missed a few games due to injury. (See National Team section) Before the high school season, USA Today selected him as one of ten players in the All-USA selection. The Simeon team has been rated by MaxPreps.com as the strongest high school team in America. On December 20, 2012, Parker selected the Duke University scholarship offer .

During the season, Simeon played six friendly matches outside the region. Of these, three encounters were broadcast nationwide by ESPN.

With 30 wins and three defeats, IHSA group 4A was won for the fourth time in a row. Only Manual High School had achieved this before. Parker was only the second player after Sergio McClain to regularly appear on the starting line-up at four championships.

After his senior season, Parker was elected by USA Basketball in a USA youth selection team that competes against a world selection at the Nike Hoop Summit. On February 12, 2013, he was elected to the All-Public League First Team by the Chicago Sun-Times. On the same day he was invited to play at the Jordan Brand Classic in April.

When he won the Jordan Brand Classic on April 13th, Parker had 16 points and 7 rebounds and was elected MVP along with Julius Randle . As in high school, Parker received numerous personal honors after his year of college. He was elected to the All-ACC first team and by the coaches to the All-ACC Freshman Team as well as to the All-ACC Basketball First Team with the most points. With 72 of 77 votes, he was named ACC Freshman of the Year. In the vote for ACC Player of the Year, he came in second behind TJ Warren .

NBA

In the 2014 NBA Draft , Parker was selected 2nd by the Milwaukee Bucks . Parker preferred the Bucks because Milwaukee is closer to his hometown of Chicago. Shortly after the draft, Parker signed a deal with shoe manufacturer Jordan Brand. Parker was named Rookie of the Month for the first time in November . On December 15, 2014, Parker suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in the game against the Phoenix Suns , which ended the season prematurely for him. By then, Parker had played 25 games and had an average of 12.3 points and 5.5 rebounds. Parker returned recovered in his sophomore year as a professional and completed 76 of a possible 82 NBA games.

On February 8, 2017 in the game against the Miami Heat , Parker suffered another cruciate ligament rupture that cost him 12 months of playing time. After his return in the 17/18 season , he completed only 30 games for the Milwaukee Bucks before they decided against an extension of his contract. Parker then became a free agent and signed a two-year $ 40 million deal with the Chicago Bulls .

At the beginning of the Bulls Parker saw a lot of playing time. After coach Fred Hoiberg was dismissed during the season and replaced by Jim Boylen , Parker was also banned from the rotation. After only a few months with the Bulls, Parker was handed over to the Washington Wizards together with Bobby Portis for Otto Porter .

National team

Parker participated in the USA Developmental National Team mini-camp in October 2010 as one of 18 players. In June 2011 he was automatically invited to the elimination for the U16 American Championship. He was one of the twelve players who were able to prevail from the 27 candidates. The US team won the tournament in Mexico and scored at least 100 points in every game. Jabari Parker set the record for a US U-16 team with 27 points in one game and was voted MVP of the tournament. In December 2011, he was named the youngest player to be named USA Basketball 's Male Athlete of the Year.

By winning the tournament, the team qualified for the U17 World Cup from June 29 to July 8, 2012 in Lithuania . Parker was nominated for the tournament but missed a few games, including the semifinals against Spain, due to an ankle injury. The final was clearly won against Australia.

Style of play and reputation

Because of his origins, Parker is often compared to Derrick Rose , who is also from Chicago .

Some observers see their style of playing more reminiscent of Grant Hill or Paul Pierce . The Dime Magazine describes him as "Grant Hill with the ability to jump shot ." Parker himself sees Paul Pierce and Carmelo Anthony as his role models.

In a May 2012 cover story, Sports Illustrated featured Jabari Parker as the best high school player since LeBron James . As a result, there were numerous objections from other commentators. Sporting News' Mike DeCourcy sees him as the best high school player since Greg Oden . Parker does not have the same physical strength as James his age. Jeff Borzello of CBS Sports also saw Parker as not as dominant as Dwight Howard in 2004 and Greg Oden in 2006 and asks whether Andrew Wiggins of the same year should not be preferable to Parker.

Personal

Parker is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints denomination. Also known as the Mormons . His mother is originally from Tonga , and his father, Sonny Parker, is a former NBA professional who worked for the Golden State Warriors between 1976 and 1982 . Parker also has six other siblings.
