Shabazz Nagee Muhammad (born November 13, 1992 in Long Beach , California ) is an American basketball player.
college
Muhammad was considered one of the greatest basketball talents in America during his high school years. So he was invited to the renowned McDonalds All-American Game . He scored 21 points and 6 rebounds and was MVP of the game.
After high school, he had offers from top colleges such as Duke , Kentucky, and UCLA . He chose UCLA but was banned for the first three games due to rule violations. For the Bruins he scored 17.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game in the first year and was appointed to the All-Pac 12 first team due to his good performance . After the season, he announced his registration for the 2013 NBA Draft .
NBA career
In the 2013 NBA draft , Muhammad was selected in 14th place by the Utah Jazz . The Jazz transferred him shortly thereafter, along with the rights to Gorgui Dieng to the Minnesota Timberwolves . In return, Utah received the rights to Trey Burke , who had recently been selected as 9th by Minnesota.
After seeing little playing time in his debut season and only scoring 3.9 points on average, he was promoted to starter in his second year. On December 31, 2014, he scored 30 points against Utah Jazz, a career best. Due to a finger injury in February 2015, Muhammad dropped out for the remainder of the 2014/15 season after completing 38 season games . By then he had scored 13.5 points on average for the Timberwolves. For years after that, Muhammad remained an important player in the rotation.
With the engagement of Tom Thibodeau as the new coach of the Wolves, Muhammad's working time fell rapidly and he found himself outside the rotation. Muhammad was released by the Wolves on March 1, 2018 and signed by the Milwaukee Bucks shortly afterwards .

Muhammad's sister Asia Muhammad is a professional tennis player. His uncle Stephone Paige played in the NFL for nine years . Muhammad has suffered from Tourette's syndrome since childhood .
