The Iowa Wolves are a team of NBA G-League , which in Des Moines ( Iowa is home). The Wolves play their home games in the Wells Fargo Arena .

history

The team was founded in 2007 as part of an expansion of the D-League and settled under the name Iowa Energy as a " farm team " in Des Moines . At the beginning, the Chicago Bulls and the Miami Heat were assigned to the Energy as partner teams of the NBA . In 2008, however, the partnership with the Miami Heat was ended. Instead, the Phoenix Suns were introduced as a new partner team. These remained partners of Energy until 2011, before the New Orleans Hornets and Washington Wizards became new partners. In 2012 the Denver Nuggets finally got the right to poach from the Energy players or to turn off their own Energy.

Their first game won the Energy on November 23, 2007 with a 101 to 99 win over the Dakota Wizards . In both the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 seasons, Energy reached the D-League play-offs. In 2011, the Energy made it to the final of the G-League Play Offs and defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers there . It is the first title in the team's history.

In 2017, Energy was taken over by the Minnesota Timberwolves from the NBA as a new farm team . The name was changed to Iowa Wolves shortly afterwards for the 2017/18 season.
