Daequan Cook (born April 28, 1987 in Dayton , Ohio ) is an American basketball player . After studying briefly in his home country, Cook first played for six years for various clubs in the top-endowed professional league, the NBA . He last appeared in the NBA for the Chicago Bulls as a shooting guard . After 2013, Cook continued his career in Europe. After a short stay in Ukraine with champions BK Budiwelnyk, he moved to the basketball Bundesliga 2013/14 for German first division club Walter Tigers Tübingen, with whom he achieved relegation. He did the same a season later with the French first division newcomer SPO Rouen Baskets. In the 2015/16 season Cook plays for the Portuguese champions Benfica SL in Lisbon.

High school

Daequan Cook attended Dunbar High School in Dayton. He led his high school as a junior to the Ohio Class B semifinals, but where the team lost to the eventual champion, Upper Sandusky High School. As a senior Cook then achieved very good stats of 24.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game and won the Class B state title of Ohio with Dunbar High School. He was then nominated for the McDonald's All-American Game in 2006. He played there for the east and scored 17 points, hitting 5 of 9 triple attempts.

He also played with Greg Oden and Mike Conley on the SPIECE Indy Heat High School AAU team. Cook was the top scorer at the 2004 Big Time Event in Las Vegas . His team won the title undefeated.

college

At Ohio State University , Cook scored 10.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.7 steals in 20.4 minutes per game. On April 20, he signed up for the 2007 NBA Draft with Greg Oden and Mike Conley .

NBA and Europe

In his rookie season he scored 8.2 points for the Miami Heat, but was later (late February) sent to the NBA D-League for the time being. On March 8th he came back and on March 10th he reached his career best of 23 points. His current point record is 24, which he scored on January 15, 2009 against the Milwaukee Bucks . He made his first six attempts - all of them three-point throws. He got his nickname "Bail Bondsman" by transforming very important and game-changing throws.

On February 15, 2009 he won the NBA three-point shootout and defeated defending champion Jason Kapono and the other contenders Mike Bibby and Rashard Lewis .

From the 2010/2011 season he ran for the Oklahoma City Thunder and supported their backcourt . Shortly before the start of the 2012/2013 season, Cook was transferred from the Thunder to the Houston Rockets , where he was released in January 2013. Shortly thereafter, the Chicago Bulls signed him.

After the contract in Chicago, Cook got no new contract in the NBA and he moved to Europe in late November 2013. Here he first played with the Ukrainian champions BK Budiwelnyk in the capital Kiev , who also took part in the highest-ranking European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2013/14 . In the Euroleague, however, Cook completed only four games after Euroleague newcomer Kiev was eliminated after the preliminary round. In the city ​​overshadowed by the Euromaidan , Cook, like many of his compatriots and colleagues, agreed in January 2014 to prematurely terminate his contract with the club after rather average performance.

A good two weeks later, Cook agreed with the relegation-threatened German first division club Walter Tigers from Tübingen on a commitment until the end of the basketball Bundesliga 2013/14 . For Tübingen, Cook came to almost 13 points per game in 15 season appearances. After relegation Cook played the following season for the French first division newcomer Stade philippin omnisports from Rouen, by increasing the LNB Pro A had risen. Rouen achieved relegation in fourth from bottom of the table. For the 2015/16 season, Cook moved to the Portuguese champions Benfica SL in the local capital, Lisbon .
