history
The Stade Philippin Omnisports Rouen basket-ball , better known as SPO Rouen Basket , is the professional basketball team of the Stade Philippin Omnisports Rouen sports club . This sports club was founded in 1892 by Henri Foursin under the name La maison des Philippins and can therefore look back on over a hundred years of history. The association was placed under the protection of Saint Philip Neri in 1893 , where the name comes from.
Between 1st and 2nd league
The first promotion to the top French league LNB Pro A could SPO Rouen Basket celebrate at the end of the 2004/05 season. However, they ended the first season in the Pro A (2005/06) on 18th and last place, so that the direct relegation took place.
For the 2008/09 season Rouen was able to rise again to the Pro A and initially assert itself, as the season ended in 13th place in the Pro A. The following season ( 2009/10 ) finished Rouen only in 15th place out of 16, so that one again relegated to the Pro B.
Since the 2012/13 season, the team has played their home games in the Kindarena in Rouen, which can hold almost 6,000 spectators.
Despite a bad season 2013/14 in the second national league LNB Pro B (14th of the main round), the club was granted renewed promotion to the first national league LNB Pro A with a wildcard . Since the 2014/15 season , the team has played in the first French basketball league for the third time. The main round of the 2014/15 season ended in 15th place.
On July 17, 2015, the basketball team from SPO Rouen Basket was officially renamed Rouen Métropole Basket . After Rouen was only able to finish the main round of the 2015/16 season in 17th place, the team is currently back in the second division LNB Pro B.
