Michael "Mike" Bibby (born May 13, 1978 in Cherry Hill Township , New Jersey ) is a retired American basketball player who last played in the New York Knicks in the NBA . He is 185 cm tall and played in the position of point guard .

Career

As an amateur player at the University of Arizona Bibby helped the Wildcats to the 1997 NCAA championship and scored 20 points in the playoff against the University of Kentucky . In the 1998 NBA Draft , he was selected as runner-up by the Vancouver Grizzlies . There he scored an average of 13.2 points, 6.5 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game in the first season and was appointed to the NBA All-Rookie First Team . He improved over the next two seasons, scoring 14.5 and 15.9 points per game. He also distributed a career record with 8.4 assists per game. On June 27, 2001, he and Brent Price were exchanged for Jason Williams and Nick Anderson of the Sacramento Kings .

During the 2001/02 season Bibby led the Sacramento Kings to the Western Conference finals, in which the team was eventually defeated by the NBA champions Los Angeles Lakers . Due to injuries, Bibby could only play 55 games in the 2002/03 season , but still achieved a respectable points average of 15.9 points per game. At the Kings Bibby had his best time alongside Chris Webber and Peja Stojaković . In 2002 they reached the Western Conference final, where they were just eliminated from the Los Angeles Lakers. Bibby was a major scorer over the seven years in Sacramento. His best year for the Kings Bibby had in the 2005-06 season when he scored 21.1 points per game.

On February 16, 2008 Bibby joined the Atlanta Hawks . Bibby was also a regular starter in Atlanta, but his performance decreased over the years. There he played until February 2011.

On February 24, 2011 Bibby was transferred to the Washington Wizards along with Hilton Armstrong in exchange for Kirk Hinrich , Maurice Evans, Jordan Crawford and a first-round pick . He terminated his contract, which was still valid there, with the agreement of the Wizards and waived 6.1 million US dollars in order to immediately sign with the Miami Heat . With the Heat he reached the 2011 NBA final, but there they lost to the Dallas Mavericks .

After the season he signed a new contract with the Knicks. For this he completed 39 games and scored 2.6 points and 2.1 assists per game.

Mike Bibby ended his career in 2012. During his career, Bibby scored 14.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 1001 games.

Private

The American soccer player Robbie Findley is a cousin of Bibby. His father Henry Bibby also played in the NBA between 1972 and 1981.
