Shannon Brown (born November 29, 1985 in Maywood , Illinois ) is a retired American basketball player who was active for most of his professional career in the NBA .

Career

When he graduated from Proviso East High School, Brown was named Illinois Mr. Basketball 2003 for the best basketball player of the year on a school team in Illinois. To study Brown went to Michigan State University , where he played from 2003 under coach Tom Izzo for the university team Spartans in the Big Ten Conference of the NCAA . After three years he finished his studies and signed up for the entry draft of the highest endowed professional league NBA .

In the 2006 NBA draft , Brown was selected in the first round in 25th position by the Cleveland Cavaliers. In the following two years he was seconded by the Cavaliers once for a few days to the " farm teams " Albuquerque Thunderbirds and Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA Development League (D-League) before he switched to Chicago in February 2008 in a player swap Bulls came, who shortly thereafter also assigned him to their farm team Iowa Energy in the D-League. After his contract expired, Brown was hired by the Charlotte Bobcats in summer 2008 , who handed him over to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2009 together with Adam Morrison for Vladimir Radmanović .

Brown won the NBA championship with the Lakers in the 2008/09 season . In the following season, Brown had his most productive playing time to date, when he was used by the champions and defending champions in all 82 regular season games with an average of 20 minutes per game. The Lakers were able to successfully defend the title.

Brown with the Lakers (2010)

The following season they failed on the "three-peat" when they failed in the play-offs at the later new title winner Dallas Mavericks to Dirk Nowitzki without a win. Brown then moved to the Phoenix Suns as a free agent . After two years with the Suns, before the start of the NBA 2013/14 , he joined the Washington Wizards in a player swap consisting of several players , who removed him from their roster a short time later before the start of the season.

It was only in February 2014 that Brown received two consecutive short-term contracts with the San Antonio Spurs, before he was signed in March 2014 after two more ten-day contracts with the Knicks from New York City for the remainder of the season. After the Knicks missed the play-offs, Brown got a contract with runner-up Miami Heat in the summer of 2014 , which Brown released from his contractual obligations after three months at the end of November 2014.

Brown is known, among other things, for his spectacular dunks . In 2010 he was in the NBA All-Star Weekend Slam Dunk Contest a favored participant in advance, but could not qualify for the finals of this event, in which Nate Robinson then won the title of the competition.

Private

Brown's brother Sterling , ten years his junior , has played in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks since 2017 .
