Sterling Damarco Brown (born February 10, 1995 in Maywood , Illinois ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA .

Career

Brown played at Southern Methodist University from 2013 to 2017 , after which he signed up for the 2017 NBA Draft . There he was selected in 46th position by the Philadelphia 76ers . However, the rights to Brown secured the Milwaukee Bucks on July 6, 2017 . He made his NBA debut on October 20, 2017 in the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers , when he was allowed to stand on the field for six minutes.

Milwaukee Police Incident (2018)

At 2 a.m. on January 26, Brown was alerted by a Milwaukee police officer that his car was parked across two disabled parking spaces. At the time, the parking lot of a Walgreens store was almost empty. The police officer requested reinforcements and after a short time a large number of police officers reached the parking lot. The situation escalated when a police officer asked Brown to pull his hands out of the pockets of his sweatshirt. Brown replied that he had things in his hand. He was then overpowered by the officers and tased. Brown was arrested for resisting state violence and the case was taken to prosecutors.

The public did not find out about the incident until four months later when the Milwaukee Police Department released a 30-minute video of Brown's arrest, recorded on an officer's body cam . The incident achieved widespread media coverage in the United States and the behavior of the Milwaukee Police Department was heavily criticized by the public. Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales apologized publicly to Brown and announced an internal investigation into the police officers involved.

Private

Brown is the younger brother of former NBA player Shannon Brown . Shannon played among others for the Los Angeles Lakers , with whom he became champions twice.
