George Jesse Hill, Jr. (born May 4, 1986 in Indianapolis , Indiana ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA .

college

Although George Hill received offers from major universities such as Florida , Temple and Indiana , he decided on Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) to stay with his sick great-grandfather Gilbert Edison. A few months later, his great-grandfather passed away without ever seeing his grandson play college basketball .

In his sophomore year, Hill led the IUPUI Jaguars to the best record in the Summit League. After losing most of his junior season with the Jaguars due to an injury, he led the Jaguars to a school record of 26 wins in 2007-08 and the Summit League tournament final, where they lost to Oral Roberts University.

George Hill left IUPUI as the fifth best point collector in school history (1619 points).

NBA

San Antonio Spurs (2008-2011)

On June 26, 2008, Hill was selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2008 NBA Draft in 26th place. He was only the second player from the Summit League (and first from his college) to be drawn in the first round of the draft. This was a bit of a surprise as Hill was considered more of a second-round pick by many experts. On September 23, 2008, he signed a standard rookie contract (two guaranteed years and a team option for two more seasons) with Spurs.

After Hill could not play the first two games of the 2008/09 season due to injury, he made his NBA debut on November 5 against the Dallas Mavericks . In 15 minutes he scored 11 points and one assist and one steal each . After coming off the bench mostly as a backup for Tony Parker in his rookie year , Parker's second year injury allowed him to start more often and was one of the positive surprises of the season. He scored 12.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game in 78 games this season. His third year went well as well, although with Parker's recovery he got more and more off the bench, scoring 11.6 points per game.

Indiana Pacers (2011-2016)

During the 2011 NBA draft , Hill was transferred from the Spurs to the Indiana Pacers in a trade . In return, Kawhi Leonard moved to San Antonio, whom the Pacers had selected shortly before. In his first year, Hill was mostly the backup for Darren Collison . Due to injuries, he sat out 32 games. In the summer of 2012, Hill signed a new $ 40 million five-year deal with the Pacers and took on the starting line-up after Collison left the Pacers. On February 7, 2014 Hill achieved a personal career record with 37 points against the Portland Trail Blazers . A good year later, on February 21, 2015, Hill achieved his first triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists against the Cleveland Cavaliers . However, he partially suspended the 2014/15 season due to injury and only played 43 of 82 season games. With the Pacers, he also missed the playoffs for the first time in four years. However, with 16.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists on average, he set new career highs. In the following season Hill completed 74 games and the Pacers reached the playoffs again, where they were eliminated after seven games against the Toronto Raptors in the first round.

Utah Jazz (2016-2017)

Hill was given up in a three-team swap to the Utah Jazz on June 23, 2016 . In return, Jeff Teague moved to the Indiana Pacers and Utah's draft pick Taurean Prince to the Atlanta Hawks . Hill impressed at jazz straight away and received his first Western Conference Player of the Week award in November . Hill played a good but injury-prone season for Jazz. In 49 of 82 possible games he achieved a career high of 16.9 points per game. He hit a good 47% of his field throws and 40% of his three-point throws. Thus he helped jazz to its first playoff qualification in five years. After Utah was able to prevail in the first round in 7 games against the Los Angeles Clippers , the Jazz went down without a win against the Golden State Warriors in the second round .

Sacramento Kings (2017-2018)

After his contract expired in the summer of 2017, Hill became associated with many teams in the NBA. Despite a successful year with the Jazz, Hill decided to move and signed a three-year, $ 57 million contract with the Sacramento Kings .

Cleveland Cavaliers (2018)

Six months later, Hill was transferred to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team swap .

Milwaukee Bucks (Since 2018)

On December 7, 2018, Hill was transferred to the Milwaukee Bucks in a five-player, three-team swap .

Player profile

Hill is considered an athletic and strong throwing player who has long been counted among the best defenders in his position. His former coach at the San Antonio Spurs Gregg Popovich described Hill as follows: "(Hill) does a little bit of everything, the great thing about him is that he's a very good all around basketball player, he's a tenacious defender, he can score, he can run, he's a good passer, he knows how to play and he's really a team guy. " (German: " Hill does a bit of everything. The great thing about him is that he is a very good all-rounder. He is a persistent defender, he can score, pass, manage the game and is very unselfish. ")
