2008 NBA Draft
The 2008 NBA Draft was conducted on June 26, 2008 at Madison Square Garden in New York City , New York . In two rounds, the 30 NBA teams were able to secure the rights to a total of 60 young players.
The final draft order for positions 1 to 14 was determined on May 20, 2008 by the draft lottery . The 14 teams that did not qualify for the playoffs in the 2007/08 season took part in this weighted lottery and were seeded in the reverse order of the regular season table. The draw was won by the Chicago Bulls , whose odds were just 1.7%, followed by the Miami Heat and the Minnesota Timberwolves .
All players who wanted to register for the draft, regardless of their nationality, had to be born before December 31, 1989. In addition, if they graduated from high school in the United States , they could not enroll for one year or more after graduation.
For the first time, only players who had only had a college year behind them were selected in the first three positions (so-called freshmen ). Among the first 7 selected players there were five and in the first round a total of ten freshmen . Both values also represent new NBA records.
