Joe Alexander (born December 26, 1986 in Kaohsiung , Taiwan ) is an American - Israeli basketball player who is currently under contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Ligat ha'Al .
Professional career
Alexander was born the son of Americans in Taiwan. He also lived during his childhood in Hong Kong and the People's Republic of China , where his father worked. In adolescence, Alexander and his family returned to the United States, where they settled in Maryland . After high school, Alexander played for three years at West Virginia University , where he attracted the interest of many NBA scouts in his junior year . Alexander was considered the most athletic player of the year prior to the NBA draft . He was selected 8th in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks . Alexander saw only sporadic playing time in his first year as a professional and averaged 4.7 points in 59 NBA games. In his sophomore year, due to an injury, he no longer played for the Bucks, but for their farm team in the D-League , the Fort Wayne Mad Ants . In the middle of the season Alexander was transferred to the Chicago Bulls , where he only played eight games of the season and scored an average of 0.5 points. He could not prevail with the Bulls and was released in the summer of 2010. For a squad place at the New Orleans Hornets , he could not recommend himself in the summer of 2010 and went back to the D-League, where he tried to recommend himself for a professional team. He played for the Texas Legends and put on good statistics with 20 points and 9 rebounds on average, but this was not enough for the NBA. At that time, Alexander was considered a draft bust who could not meet the high expectations in the NBA.
In July 2011 Alexander signed a contract with Krasnye Krylja Samara in Russia. However, due to a tibia fracture, he left the team after a year. After a period of recovery, he signed a contract with the Golden State Warriors in September 2013 , but they released him shortly before the start of the season. Instead, he played for the farm team of the Warriors, the Santa Cruz Warriors again in the D-League. He played for Santa Cruz until December 2013.
At the end of December 2013, Alexander signed a contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. After a year at Dinamo Sassari in Italy, he returned to Maccabi in August 2016. With Maccabi he won the Israeli Cup in 2015 and 2017.
Others
Because of his grandfather, Alexander also has Israeli citizenship, which means that he is not subject to the regulations on foreigners in Israel.
