Roy Denzil Hibbert (born December 11, 1986 in Queens , New York City ) is a former Jamaican - American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 2008 to 2017 . In his career was a total of two NBA All-Star and was once elected to the All-Defensive Second Team .

High school

Roy Hibbert attended Georgetown Preparatory School. There he was trained by Hoya Dwayne Bryant, who later introduced him to Georgetown University . With his team he reached the Interstate Athletic Conference Final, where they lost, however. He also played at the Jordan Capital Classic together with his future teammate Jeff Green .

college

Freshman 2004-2005

In his freshman season he and his teammates Jeff Green, Brandon Bowman and Jonathan Wallace achieved a record of 17 wins and 12 losses. So they were eighth in the Big East Conference and thus reached the National Invitation Tournament , in which they were eliminated in the quarterfinals against the eventual champion, the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Sophomore 2005-2006

The Hoyas around sophomore Roy Hibbert reached the NCAA tournament this season , but didn't get far there. Hibbert was the team's strongest rebound player with an average of 6.9 rebounds per game and was appointed to the All-Big East Second Team.

Junior 2006-2007

The junior season was Hibbert's most successful season with the Hoyas . They became the Big East Champion for the first time since 1989 and also won the Big East Tournament. Hibbert and Green were then appointed to the All-Big East First Team. The highlight was reaching the Final Four , but where they lost to Ohio State University .

Senior 2007-2008

Prior to the 2007-2008 season, Roy Hibbert was named Big East's preseason player of the year and a preseason All-American with Tyler Hansbrough . With the Hoyas he won the regular season title in the regular season . In the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship tournament he was eliminated with the Hoyas in the second round.

NBA

After Hibbert played his senior season with the Hoyas , he was drafted 17th in the 2008 NBA draft by the Toronto Raptors . Hibbert was traded directly to the Indiana Pacers together with Maceo Baston and TJ Ford in exchange with Nathan Jawai and Jermaine O'Neal .

2008/09 season

In his first season with the Pacers, Roy Hibbert could not reach the playoffs. He played 70 games and started 42 of them. He averaged 7.1 points and 3.5 rebounds and earned US $ 1,465,440.

Season 2009/10 to season 2011/12

After establishing himself as a starter between 2009 and 2011, Roy Hibbert delivered his best season so far for the Pacers in 2011/2012. During the regular season he came to 12.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1.7 assists per game with around 30 minutes of playing time per game. He was nominated for the NBA's all-star game because of his achievements .

2012/13 season

On November 22, 2012, in the 115: 107 success after overtime against the Hornets, Hibbert recorded a triple double with a career best of 11 blocks (10 points, 11 rebounds). He finished the third longest series (774 games) of an NBA team without a player succeeding in a TD. On January 22, 2003, Jermaine O'Neal scored the last one for the Pacers.

2014 to 2017

Hibbert was called up for the second time in the NBA All-Star Game in 2014 . As part of a rebuild at the Pacers, he was transferred to the Los Angeles Lakers on July 9, 2015 .

After a disappointing year with the Lakers, Hibbert joined the Charlotte Hornets in the summer of 2016 .

Season 2016/2017

In 42 games for the Hornets, in which Hibbert only played about 16 minutes on average, he averaged 10.1 points, 1.3 assists and 6.4 rebounds per game. He was then on February 2, 2017 along with his teammate Spencer Hawes to Wisconsin to Milwaukee Bucks traded. In return, the Hornets received Miles Plumlee . Without playing a game, Hibbert was traded to the Denver Nuggets on February 27, 2017, where he only made six season appearances. After the season, Hibbert announced his retirement at the age of 31.
